50/50: Dominican Republic

When I got the assignment to photograph in the Dominican Republic for the AES project I was hoping to be able to explore the cultural fixation with baseball. As it turned out one of the social responsibility projects that the local AES group was involved in was supporting a local youth team, supplying funds for the coaching staff, field and uniforms. It was great to spend time with these kids who seemed to take on the weight and importance of the sport. After documenting their practice we headed back to Santa Domingo to attend and photograph the night game in the stadium between arch-rivals Tigres del Licey and Aquilas Cibaenas. Since our hosts were diehard Tigres fans we donned blue caps and danced to the drums and horns played feverishly by their fans in the stands.
