On August 19 I attended a Bill de Blasio rally Hospitals. Not Condos that took place across the street from the construction site where St. Vincents Hospital once stood, in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. As the crowd gathered prior to the candidates arrival I noticed representatives from all walks of life, from students to hospital workers to doctors to a large contingency of the press corps. de Blasio spoke with candor and commitment and was backed up by a triumvirate of celebrity activists – Harry Belafonte, Susan Sarandon and Cynthia Nixon.
